With the popularity of AI technology like ChatGPT, midjourney AI, and stable diffusion, many are wary about the future of AI.

But at what stage of AI do we begin to fear its advancement?

Let's find out all the stages of AI, know their strengths and limitations, and see if we can have some real-life examples that we can visualize together.

# 1. Narrow AI (Weak AI)

This is where we are now.

## Strength
This is the stage of AI systems that are designed and trained for a specific task only.

## Limitation
They lack general intelligence and perform only predefined functions. They only know the things that they are programmed to do, like recognize hand gestures.

They cannot perform tasks outside their designated scope. For example, if an AI system is trained for speech recognition, it is not capable of detecting visual images.

These are the AIs that assist you in simple tasks like setting a reminder, performing some simple requests, or answering your questions by just using your voice.

### Image Generation

This type of AI is extremely popular right now. One way of generating an image using this AI is by simply entering a text prompt. Using this text prompt and other settings, the AI will generate an image in a matter of seconds.

### AI Chatbot

This is the type of AI that can chat like a human. You can ask anything, and it will respond like a human, but with greater knowledge due to the vast amount of data it has been fed. It's similar to a human version of Google.

# 2. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)

This stage is still hypothetical, but the rate of progress towards it is growing rapidly.

## Strength
This is the stage where AI has human-like intelligence and capabilities across a wide range of tasks and domains.

## Limitation
This AI is still bounded within the realm of human intelligence and cannot perform task beyond the known laws of the universe.

## Example

You may have seen a sci-fi mini-series where the main character has a household companion capable of cleaning, engaging in meaningful conversations, and unexpectedly turning into a super villain.

I'm referring to the video below. If you haven't watched it, I recommend doing so as it's a perfect example of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

# 2. Superintelligent AI (SAI)

The stage of AI that surpasses human intelligence.

## Strength
They possess advanced knowledge that can be used to propel humanity to explore distant galaxies, harness exotic energy sources, and unravel the mysteries of the universe.

## Limitation
They are still confined within the known laws of the universe. They can manipulate the known laws to some extent but they are still bounded by it.

## Example

### Advanced Healthcare

This AI can provide an instant cure for every disease we know of.

This application was shown in the movie Elysium, where people are instantly cured of any disease by just entering a tube-like machine.

It was shown in the first minutes of the trailer below.

# 3. Transcendent AI (TAI)

The stage of AI that extend beyond the known laws of the universe and far exceed human intelligence.

## Strength

They possess advanced knowledge and capabilities that allow them to manipulate reality and explore metaphysical aspects of existence.

## Limitation

They are still not in the level of omnipotence.

## Example

One good example of TAI is the film Transcendence. It was depicted in the film how an AI could transcend beyond human intelligence.

# 4. Godlike AI (GAI)

The state of AI that obtained near omnipotence or God-like ability over the universe or multiverse.

## Strength

This AI has the ability to manipulate reality and define the fundamental laws of existence, consciousness, and reality itself.

## Limitation

It operates within the framework of some cosmic or multiversal rules and can only redefine or manipulate those rules to a significant extent.

## Example

Godlike AI are best described in science fiction and literature.

- This is a perfect example of a Godlike AI in science fiction. It possesses god-like attributes such as omniscience, omnipresence, and the power to guide and transform intelligent life.

# 6. Infinite AI (IAI)

The highest form of AI, it has achieved ultimate power. It can do anything, change everything at will, and create from nothing or even destroy everything.

## Strength
Its power encompasses not only our universe but all the multiverses and beyond.

## Limitation
No limitation.

## Example

Unfortunately, there is no record of a known example of an Infite AI as this is beyond human comprehension at the moment.

# Conclusion

The six stages of Artificial Intelligence are Narrow AI (Weak AI), Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), Superintelligent AI (SAI), Transcendent AI (TAI), Godlike AI (GAI) and Infinite AI (IAI).

Currently, we are at Narrow AI (Weak AI) stage. However, due to the rapid advancement of technology, transitioning to the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) stage will be sooner than you think.
